
Nutrition Programs & Services
Open Hand serves a diverse population of men, women and children with unique nutrition needs. Our programs and services are designed to help empower our clients with the tools and knowledge they need to better manage their health. and assist healthcare providers in the early identification and treatment, as well as the prevention or progression, of many nutrition-sensitive illnesses. Open Hand Registered Dietitians plan balanced seasonal menus tailored to the level of nutrition care determined for each client’s needs.
Prepared meal programs
Our prepared meal programs serve a variety of clients in a number of settings. Primarily, Open Hand provides freshly cooked medically-tailored meals, combined with snacks or supplements, to meet the daily nutrition needs of low-income men, women and children who are dealing with a chronic disease in addition to homebound seniors and disabled individuals. Prepared meals are selected from our seasonal menus designed by our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists to meet individual clients’ dietary requirements/health conditions.
Nutrition education programs
Open Hand’s evidence-based nutrition education programs are designed to empower patients and caregivers to take control of their health with nutrition topics ranging from portion control, healthy eating habits and hands-on food prep to physical activity, gardening, goal-setting, and self-management. Nutrition education is offered to at-risk individuals from all walks of life — from low-income youth and families to seniors, from veterans to victims of abuse.
Collaborative programs
We believe in partnering with the community to positively impact health and social services, and work closely with several other nonprofit organizations to implement collaborative programs that address these issues. It is only through these valued collaborative relationships that Open Hand Atlanta is able to carry out our mission and touch the lives of thousands of those in need.
