Meal Packing

Our kitchen and packing area is the Grand Central of Open Hand. As you would imagine, with nearly 5,000 meals to prepare, package and deliver every day, the atmosphere is electric. But it’s not all work — the music is always on, and the friendly banter among new friends never ceases. It all makes for a very memorable and rewarding experience.

Packing involves portioning food into individual containers and snack bags on our packing assembly line. This is a great project for individuals and families, and a great team-building exercise for school, business and church groups!

Age and Chaperone Requirements: Minors participating in Meal Packing must be at least 16 years old without a parent or guardian or 13 years old with an accompanying parent or guardian. Parents will need to create an account for each minor under the age of 18. When it’s their first time volunteering at Open Hand, minors under the age of 18 must bring along the waiver signed by their parent or guardian that is generated in VolunteerHub when signing up for an activity. >> Click here to create an account.

Safety First: For the safety of our clients and our volunteers, the dress and health codes will be strictly enforced.
